Hand Care Atlanta GA

Whether you are trying to ward off COVID or just interested in implementing a better handwashing routine, below are the steps that will help keep you healthy and protect your sensitive skin.

  1. Remove all jewelry. Rings and other decorative jewelry on the hands can harbor germs, bacteria, and viruses. Not to mention, bacteria can remain underneath your jewelry even after handwashing. Removing jewelry will help ensure that every bit of your hands is clean after washing.
  2. Wet your hands. It is best to dampen your hands before you apply soap. Use warm water, not hot, to prevent skin irritation and dryness.
  3. Apply a gentle cleanser. You do not need a harsh cleanser to clean your hands effectively. Using a gentle cleanser, rub it generously into your hands to create a rich lather. Make sure you distribute the lather evenly over the front and back of your hands and wrists.
  4. Interlace your fingers. Many people forget to thoroughly wash between their fingers. Interlace your fingers and rub them together to make sure you are cleaning the delicate skin between your fingers.
  5. Scrub your nails. Your fingernails harbor dirt, grime, germs, and bacteria. Make sure you take the time to scrub your nails to kill and remove the nasty crud that collects underneath them.
  6. Rinse your hands well. You need to make sure you thoroughly rinse your hands off after they have been cleansed. This will remove soap residue that can irritate your skin. If residue is left behind on the skin, it will attract dirt and germs because your hands will have a sticky film on them.
  7. Dry your hands well. Using a single-use towel or cloth is the best way to dry your hands. Dab them dry rather than rubbing to avoid irritation.
  8. Use a moisturizer. Once your hands are dry, you need to keep your hands healthy between washings. Nourish your skin with a gentle moisturizer to help maintain your skin’s natural protective barrier and prevent dryness.

At Medical Dermatology Specialists, we encourage you to make handwashing a natural part of your routine. Effective handwashing can prevent the spread of viruses, like COVID-19, and protect you from infection.

Our Patient Reviews

Dr. Weisman was very professional, friendly, and engaged in conversation with terminology I would understand. Her beside manner was, quite frankly, surprising! It was one of the most comfortable visits I've ever experienced with a doctor.
Jeffery D.
Dr. Weisman is a great doctor! She was very informative and personally! Her staff were very welcoming as well I'm glad I found her because she is the only doctor who truly explained what was going with me.
Waquele H.
I truly cannot express how thankful I am for this practice. I have been treated with kindness and immense care by every staff member I have encountered here. The nurses and assistants are beyond attentive and genuinely care for the patient. I have just received a treatment plan from Dr. Laura Biehl, and even if this particular treatment plan doesn't provide me relief, I am confident that Dr. Biehl will work to figure out a solution. She is extremely knowledgeable, listens to patient concerns, and takes time to answer patient questions. Dr. Biehl, and this practice are true gems. If you have any dermatological issues this practice is absolutely the best of the best.
