poison oak leaves

One of the most common causes of contact dermatitis of the skin is poison ivy. This plant, and its cousins poison oak and poison sumac, grow in woody areas and contain an oil in them called urushiol. Most people are allergic to urushiol and will break out into an extremely itchy rash anywhere the plant has touched their skin. The rash is also easily spread to other parts of the body and to other people by touching the infected area, or by a person scratching the rash and then touching someone else. For many people this rash is nothing more than a nuisance and will go away on its own in a few days. For others, however, they do not receive relief even from hydrocortisone and must visit a dermatologist for treatment. At Medical Dermatology Specialists, we provide effective treatment for poison ivy to patients of all ages so that they can find the relief they need from their severe symptoms.

The itchy rash caused by the poison ivy plant can occur anywhere on the body. In severe cases the rash can produce intense swelling and oozing blisters and can enter into the blood stream and cause extremely dangerous health issues. Because the rash from poison ivy can be easily spread through direct and indirect contact, it is important not to share clothing items, towels, or even a bed with your partner while the rash is at its worse. Medical Dermatology Specialists can offer you the treatment you need so that you do not have to continue to endure your severe symptoms.

If you have a rash caused by poison ivy that is unbearable and/or is simply not going away, please contact Medical Dermatology Specialists in Atlanta right away. You do not need to suffer. Dr. Jamie Weisman offers the most progressive and advanced skin care treatment here in Atlanta, and our entire staff would be proud to serve you.

Our Patient Reviews

Dr. Weisman was very professional, friendly, and engaged in conversation with terminology I would understand. Her beside manner was, quite frankly, surprising! It was one of the most comfortable visits I've ever experienced with a doctor.

I truly cannot express how thankful I am for this practice. I have been treated with kindness and immense care by every staff member I have encountered here. The nurses and assistants are beyond attentive and genuinely care for the patient. I have just received a treatment plan from Dr. Laura Biehl, and even if this particular treatment plan doesn't provide me relief, I am confident that Dr. Biehl will work to figure out a solution. She is extremely knowledgeable, listens to patient concerns, and takes time to answer patient questions. Dr. Biehl, and this practice are true gems. If you have any dermatological issues this practice is absolutely the best of the best.
