Melasma is a common skin condition that causes brown spots to occur on the skin. Most commonly these brown spots show up on the face – on the cheeks, upper lip, chin, forehead, or the nose. Many people who suffer from Melasma also suffer from the side effect of feeling very self conscious about the appearance of the skin on their faces.

Melasma is triggered by sun exposure and is also affected by a hormone imbalance. Many women suffer from Melasma during and after pregnancy because of the dramatic shifts that occur in their bodies during pregnancy. For women who suffer from Melasma during pregnancy, they are told that they have “the mask of pregnancy.” Luckily, for many women their Melasma will fade over time, typically within six months of giving birth. However, for some women their Melasma does not go away on its own.

For women and men with Melasma that does not fade on its own, there are treatment options available from our esteemed dermatology office. It is important to get to the root issues of Melasma – is it from over exposure to the sun, a hormone imbalance, or something more? We will work with you and your regular physician to help determine the cause of your skin condition. After working to understand the causes of your Melasma, our trusted dermatologists will work to provide a treatment plan to lead you to healthy, radiant skin. Treatment methods may consist of lightening creams, laser therapy, or chemical peels in order to fade the patches of dark skin. Your treatment plan will also help you to avoid other dark brown patches from popping up on other places of your face.

Your dermatologist care should be both comprehensive and long-lasting. Your skin is important, and we understand how personal your face is to you.

Our Patient Reviews

Dr. Weisman was very professional, friendly, and engaged in conversation with terminology I would understand. Her beside manner was, quite frankly, surprising! It was one of the most comfortable visits I've ever experienced with a doctor.

Dr. Weisman is a great doctor! She was very informative and personally! Her staff were very welcoming as well I'm glad I found her because she is the only doctor who truly explained what was going with me.
Waquele H.
I truly cannot express how thankful I am for this practice. I have been treated with kindness and immense care by every staff member I have encountered here. The nurses and assistants are beyond attentive and genuinely care for the patient. I have just received a treatment plan from Dr. Laura Biehl, and even if this particular treatment plan doesn't provide me relief, I am confident that Dr. Biehl will work to figure out a solution. She is extremely knowledgeable, listens to patient concerns, and takes time to answer patient questions. Dr. Biehl, and this practice are true gems. If you have any dermatological issues this practice is absolutely the best of the best.
